Three Reasons Why Dads Are Important

It’s easy for most guys to become someone’s baby daddy. However, it’s hard to become an actual father to a child.  We know that it’s a no-brainer that both parents are vital in making sure that a child will grow up correctly, most of the credits usually go to the mother.   And that is wrong because fathers also play a fundamental role in the family and more in a child’s overall development. Sure, not all dads are good enough to be given recognition but how about those who work hard every day just to give their families the kind of life they deserve?

And to show our appreciation for those deserving dads, we listed three of the top reasons why they are significant in raising a child.  Keep on reading if you’re interested to find out what they are.

Fathers Teach You How To Be Independent

Independence is one of the greatest life lessons that you can learn from your parents. According to Jim Taylor Ph.D. “One of your most important goals as a parent is to raise children who become independent and self-reliant people.”  While both parents let you have some autonomy every once in a while, fathers are more open to the idea of allowing you to do things on your own.  Dads will pat your back after you achieved something by yourself, and they don’t scold you that much if you tried something and failed at it.  Moms, on the other hand, are usually more scared and protective. They almost never let you do things by yourself unless they’re sure you can handle whatever the outcome is.

They Discipline The Kids Better

Moms are helpful when it comes to disciplining their kids, but Dads? They are excellent at it.  In a book entitled Partnership Parenting, published by Drs. Kyle Pruett and Marsha Kline Pruett, it was mentioned that fathers are more willing to reiterate their authority and scold the kids for their less than friendly attitude.  Fathers are also notorious for having a firm hand when it comes to implementing specific punishments for naughty children. “If you don’t manage your child’s behavior when he is young, he will have a hard time learning how to manage himself when he is older and you aren’t around.” says Laurence Steinberg, PhD. Meanwhile, mothers tend to give in quickly, because they love their kids so much to stay mad at them for so long.

Dads Can Show Their Sons How To Treat A Woman Properly

Mothers can teach their sons how to treat a woman properly, let’s make that clear. But fathers do a more effective job at it because their sons see them as their most significant example. Dads can teach their boys how to respect a woman by showing them how they treat their wives. If they treat their partner with love, respect, and understanding, their sons will absorb all these things and approach their future girlfriend or wife the same way.

Fatherhood is not an easy task. And though some guys fail at it, a lot of men do their best to be a great husband and an awesome dad. “There is no question that fathers do play an important part in their children’s lives: the majority of studies affirm that an involved father can play a crucial role.” Ditta M. Oliker Ph.D. explains. Their role in the family is often underappreciated. But let’s not forget their significance and the things they can do to give us a better life. So thank your Dad the next time you see him, okay?
